Songwriters in The Round

Songwriters In The Round is a singer/songwriter showcase at The Old Gallery in Allenspark on 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

Four artists will take turns playing one of their original songs and sharing the story behind it, not unlike the famed Bluebird in Nashville.  These local, regional and national touring artists haven’t had a song on the top 20 charts yet, but once you hear them, you’ll know it’s just a matter of time before they DO chart.

Songwriters in the Round is coming to Allenspark via Boulder In-The-Round, a monthly singer/songwriter show at eTown in Boulder.  eTown is the nationally syndicated radio show heard on 300+ radio stations, featuring live performances by national and international artists, as well as an interview with a not-for-profit founder changing the world for the better.

The four singer/songwriters performing in Allenspark include Songwriter in the Round curator Theresa Peterson, who reminds one of Alison Krauss and Joni Mitchell; Americana artist John Statz, happy folk pop artist Shanna in a Dress and folks blues artist Hunter Stone.

Theresa Peterson’s lyrics paint pictures, buckle knees and leave a sense of depravity and hope, wrapped up in unique chord structures and alternate tunings. She dives deep into the bottomless wells of love, death and life with her storytelling and touches the intangible through photographic lyrics.

John Statz has released seven studio albums, and performed all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. American Songwriters says, “He writes the kind of songs that float through your mind and stay nestled in your thoughts long after listening.”

Shanna in a Dress is a smashing combination of clever lyrics, sweet serenade and tongue twisting rhymes. She’s a diverse songwriter with a playful set list containing material ranging from sunny toe-tapping tunes to intensely emotional ballads to humorous ear candy. Her lyrics are laden with witty wordplay and are relatable across all ages as she supports them on guitar, ukulele and piano.

Hunter Stone’s songwriting echoes the simple melodic beauty of folk music of the past and his lyrical content paints pictures of the world we see around us. He kicks things up with the stomp of a foot drum and the bent notes of a pinky slide, bringing his lyrics to life with the emotional honesty of his voice.

Admission to Songwriters in the Round is free, but donations for the band are encouraged. There will be a cash bar.

“If you enjoy live music, if you appreciate hearing songs as they are born and the backstories behind them, if you appreciate artistry and value a true listening environment, you need to come experience Songwriters in the Round,” said Holly Bea-Weaver, a volunteer and event coordinator for The Old Gallery.
