Learning Lecture – Alpine Restoration Talk
May 11 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Rocky Mountain National Park’s alpine tundra starts high up at 11,000 feet and covers about a third of the park – making it one of the largest protected alpine landscapes in the lower 48. This hardy, treeless ecosystem thrives in tough conditions, but decades of hiking, parking, and foot traffic have left scars along popular trails like Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road.
Combined with the effects of a changing climate, some areas need more than time to bounce back. That’s where restoration comes in! Over the past 20 years, projects have planted tens of thousands of tundra plants, spread topsoil, and logged thousands of staff hours to bring these areas back to life. With careful planning, ongoing monitoring, and teamwork across disciplines,
we’re keeping this fragile-yet-resilient ecosystem healthy for generations to enjoy. Come learn all the cool science details in another Old Gallery Learning Lecture!
